10 Aug Athlete of the Month- August 2016!
The athlete that we are proud to feature for the month of August is…
Adam Clemente!
We are all super impressed by the hard work Adam has been putting in, coming to both Barbell Club and CrossFit. He is always such a pleasure to WOD with and coach as he is always happy and smiling! Adam has overcome injuries and plateaus in the past few years due to his hard work, and now has found something that works. Lucky for us he is willing to share his story with us!
1) When did you start CrossFitting and how did you get into it?
- I started CrossFitting about four years ago at a friend’s garage for a year, took a break and joined CFPH in August of 2014! I got into CrossFit through a family friend who is also a CF coach. He knew I was struggling to meet my personal fitness goals through mundane workouts at the local gym and invited me to WOD. After an injury, I took a break from CrossFit and went back to the commercial gyms where I hit a plateau. I couldn’t generate the same energy and motivation when I was CrossFitting and that lead to weight gain, decrease in stamina and endurance– I had to get back. Finding CFPH wasn’t hard at all. I remember coach Carly sitting at the front desk—she gave me a flyer, set me up for a test-out with coach Leticia. I passed, and started my first WOD at the 6AM class with coach Victor. Then 8AMs with coach Alexis, then I tried every other time to experience the different coaching styles and personalities– and loved them all! Finally, I recently started attending the Barbell Club in which has only made me a more explosive athlete (in my humble opinion) with coaches who are attentive and precise with my form. Oh, I can’t leave of my mobility classes with coach Carly– the oil that keeps this machine going! 😉
2) What do you like to do outside of CrossFit?
- Outside of CrossFit I like to spend time with close friends and family. I also like to stay centered with my daily meditations, practice Filipino mixed martial arts, read books on human behavior (I don’t judge), lay out in the sun with my headphones on and watch scary movies with a bowl of mint chocolate chip ice cream.
3) How did CrossFit change your life?
- CrossFit changed my life after I realized what the sport meant to me. Sure my PR’s and my fastest times are important, but CFPH helped me beyond the surface level of a strength and conditioning program. I cultivated an inner strength–focus, push and drive through the support and encouragement of the CFPH community and coaches who challenged me to test my limits. I have been through a lot of changes with my body as an overweight teen and young adult who struggled with image and isolation. However, CFPH has taught me the value of community, partnership and to trust myself in the process of living healthy so I wouldn’t revert to my old lifestyle. I
4) What is your favorite benchmark WOD?
- My favorite Benchmark WOD is “Cindy”.
