The CFPH Athlete of the Month for April is Dwight Cochran!
Dwight is an O.G. member from back when we were based inside World Gym! You can always count on seeing Dwight during noon class 3-5x a week. He also has been bringing his son, Axel to CF Kids on Sundays! Dwight, you are a true model of balancing a consistent fitness regimen with family and work. You are a huge part of our community and we love seeing you improve every year!
Lets learn some more about Dwight’s CrossFit experience:
1) When did you start CrossFitting and how did you get into it?

I started in early 2012 soon after my son was born. The days of long mountain bike rides were done (or at least put on hold for a few years) so I joined World Gym and began working out on my own. I soon came across this group of loud (and somewhat Annoying) people in the back corner in a cage. They were always running through the gym, banging weights and cheering each other on. Soon I started paying attention to the Annoying people. After watching a few intense workouts I drank the Kool-Aid and decided to try it and Alexis and Company have continued to kick my butt ever since. I am thoroughly hooked and the Annoying people are no longer Annoying – or maybe I have just become Annoying…
2) What do you like to do outside of CrossFit?

Nothing – I live for CrossFit. Okay – really it is pretty much about raising our 5 year old – nothing better than that… Other than that, a little photography and any outdoor activity I can manage – and the best thing is that CrossFit keeps me in good shape so that when I ski/bike/paddle board or whatever I am good to go…
3) How did CrossFit change your life?

As much as it has helped me physically, mostly it is a great mental break during the day – worries and stress go by the wayside and I just focus on completing the workout.
4) What is your favorite benchmark WOD and why?
-
Well let me start with my favorite CrossfitPH story – back in the day, in the cage in World Gym, one of the CrossFit coaches asked the question – “What is your favorite thing about Crossfit?” There were plenty of boring answers until the girlfriend/wife (I’ll keep this anonymous) of one of the owners gave this serious response: “Sundays.” Now let’s remember that there was no CrossfitPH on Sundays back in the day. BEST RESPONSE EVER! Don’t get me wrong, I love CrossFit, and I particularly love the noon class which breaks up the day perfectly. My favorite benchmark WOD is Cindy because even though it kicks my butt it is all the things I like – pull-ups, pushups, and squats.
